Fat Jawed Goldeneye Decoy
Jay Miles, Wells, Maine circa 2008
This goldeneye or "whistler" hen was carved to represent the "fat jaw" - "beaver tail" style decoy sometimes seen among Maryland's old working decoys. Its head is half-turned and nestled down like a resting duck. She was also carved hollow and given raised wings. From the side view can also be seen the Maryland "humpback" style which slopes gradually to the end of the tail. Painted eyes. Size = 13"L x 5"W x 5 1/2"H. Miles brand.
