Antique Decoys Illinois Mallard Hen Decoy
Richard Wilcoxen (1855-1926), Caton, Illinois, circa 1910-20
This is a very nice example of Richard Wilcoxen's work in the form of a hollow mallard hen. It has been authenticated as to maker. Richard made only a few mallards and we have not been able to find one for paint comparison. Although we have been told that the paint is not original, there is only one layer of primer under the existing paint which has very good patination. There is extensive comb painting on the entire decoy which was common for Richard but not Perry. The broader weight which was attached with several nails is missing. The eyes are not original. Condition: excellent
