Vintage Decoy Hollow Illinois Mallard Decoy
Perry Wilcoxen (1862-1954), Caton, Illinois, circa 1920
This is a beautiful example of Perry's work in the form of a hollow mallard drake decoy. It has been authenticated as a Perry Wilcoxen decoy, however, it retains what appear to be the original glass eyes which was a characteristic of Richard and not Perry. The paint is reportedly not original, however, there is only one layer of paint over a white primer. There is extensive comb painting and "looped" breast painting, both characteristic of Richard Wilcoxen. The broad weight with several fastening nails (normally found on Richard's decoys) is missing. Condition: excellent.
